Mabari is a Seattle-based online boutique with special pieces for both mamas and children. Inspired by life and adventures in India, including the birth of her first child, mama Debora has created this brand connecting the amazing artisans she came to know in Calcutta (Kolkata) with her desires for her children, her needs as woman and mother, and her design sensibilities.
Her shop offers a gorgeous range of 100% soft cotton fabric, fully hand embroidered whimsical pillow buddies. These toy animals, called Katharoos, are made using Kantha - a simple needlework stitch traditional of the region of East India and Bangladesh. They’re a modern twist to a centuries old tradition and designed to be comforting whilst nurturing the imagination.
Originally from Chile, by way of the US, well-travelled Debora’s extraordinary years living in tropical Kolkata as a mother and an out-of-towner made her yearn for the perfect travel companion – the bag for all occasions. The resulting, beautiful, bags are designed to be an extension of their owner - perfectly minimal and gracefully adaptable. An ally that gets more beautiful and effortless with every voyage.
Choose from a handbag with top flap closure and a roomy tote. Both offer use-every-day simplicity and are made of buttery soft, 100% eco-friendly premium vegetable-tanned leather. Care is taken to ensure every step of the production process is kind to people and planet.
Operating as a sustainable, Fair-Trade business and supporting the artisans who make their products possible is at the very heart of Mabari. Mabari work with a Fair Trade organisation dedicated to equal work opportunities for women, saying no to child-labour and always granting dignity through fair wages.
