I wanted to share this glorious black owned puzzles brand on here. I discovered them earlier this year before being gifted another of their products, their colour- in tshirt, more recently.
Very Puzzled is a toys and games brand and is Dad-run. It was born from a mission to provide black children and families with products reflective of their heritage and culture. Patrick Adom wanted to teach his daughter about her Ghanaian roots and succeeded in doing so with a jigsaw puzzle.
The company now has a collection of puzzles ranging from 32 – 100 pieces. Each feature landmarks, monuments and people from a number of different places. Of the many available, we have the London puzzle, Nigeria puzzle and Africa puzzle.
Very Puzzled also have map posters of these designs, and t-shirts to colour in yourself. My eldest daughter has loved doing this and likes to add some colours with the fabric pens that come with, before each wear!
We love Very Puzzled, not only for what they represent, but also how they represent. Their products are fun and interactive, and for all the family. They spark conversations of the people and places featured, some of whom we know, and others we don’t. My husband and I have so much fun racing to complete the London puzzle in record time whilst our daughters look on in hysterics!
More so than ever before, it seems recognition is being given to the fact that a number of families may not own a balance of books, toys and games reflective of the world as a whole.
Brands like Very Puzzled fill this space beautifully and we love seeing them.
What about you? What Black-owned brands do you shop with and love?
P.S. I shared a book we love looking through and learning from here.
