Lechuza Beach is a tranquil and little-known beach in Malibu located below private residences at the north end of Broad Beach Road. Its a public beach with a very private vibe, because to access the beach you have to park in a private neighborhood and walk right past peoples private homes to get there. A secret gem!
The best public access is at the center of the beach (across from Bunnie Lane), from which its a short walk through a tree covered corridor and then down a few flights of wooden stairs to the sandy beach.
There are large rocks in the surf in this area of the beach, making it a very photogenic scenery.
Something to consider is that there are no public restrooms (that we could find) anywhere at this beach. However, right before reaching Broad Beach from Pacific Coast Highway there is a Natural Grocery Store and a Starbucks, which both have restrooms and might be your nearest public loo.
Something about Lechuza Beach feels more secluded than some of the other similar beaches in Malibu. Its a nice break from the crowds and the waves seem very gentle for kids to play in. We’ll definitely be back for more this summer!
Bring a picnic, bring a sun umbrella, bring plenty of sunscreen, bring your sand toys… but don’t forget that the walk up the wooden steps is harder than coming down the steps!
