'The Extremely Inconvenient Adventures of Bronte Mettlestone' by Jaclyn Moriarty
I am delighted to have discovered How Brave is the Wren through our Babyccino Kids shopping portal. It’s an online children’s bookstore, and before covid came along, it was a travelling bookstore in a caravan! It’s an Aladdin cave filled with the most glorious collection of books. When I browse through their online store, I’m like ...

CHRISTMAS CRAFTS
A slow and simple Christmas (and craft to make with little ones)
For me and for many, 2020 has been a year of 'Slow and Simple'. Our lifestyles and livelihoods were forced to slow down, to adapt or at the very least relocate to our living rooms. And many of us have had to scale back on things and to keep things simple so as to get ...

Make and gift a festive simmer pot
Have you ever thought about how powerful the olfactory memory is? Many times, different smells take me back to a particular moment in time -- often a childhood memory. Spices have always been around our house.  African food needs quite a bit of it! The smell of delicately balanced ginger and cloves will always remind ...

The Rule of Four for Christmas

What's Cooking at 10 Garden Street - A delightful cookbook for kids that also tells a story!
As a child growing up, I was privileged enough to be raised by a village.  My mother was intentional about raising me among diverse groups of people.  This also meant that I was exposed to diverse foods.  To this day, a good dal or pancit is comfort food to me.  I learned from an early ...

Thanksgiving Traditions: How our family celebrates today.
In my family, Thanksgiving is a complicated holiday. For many Americans it is a time to spend with family, but also a time to reminisce about "Pilgrims and Indians" and the story of the "first Thanksgiving feast". However, for other families, like mine, it is a reminder of the genocide and atrocities that soon followed ...
