House of Toogood — a Shoreditch shopping oasis for mamas

Behind that door you get to escape the busy city and enter the House of Toogood, a unique oasis filled with soft light, meticulously crafted objects, unique silhouettes, and an overall sense of calm. This house, or world even, is created by two sisters, Faye and Erica Toogood. One a tinker, the other a tailor. And their shop is gallery meets store, a place where special pieces aren’t just purchased, they are considered and treasured.

The House of Toogood designs new collections each season, but all are gender neutral pieces, made of considered materials, and intended to last as heirloom pieces. They can even be shared between you and your partner — truly capsule collection focussed.

Further inside you will see that even the handmade ceramics take on this neutral, bold and graphic shape to them. It is a true brand experience, with all items designed and curated to perfection. Nearly all of them are sustainable too!

And although it was a hot summery day when I meandered thru the indoor and outdoor spaces of Toogood, I will return in colder months to look at their perfectly crafted denim jeans. They use Britain’s only selvedge denim fabric, manufactured in a century-old mill in east Lancashire. Finally the denim is bound together in a London atelier. Their sustainable workwear-inspired garments celebrate the honesty of labour.

Faye is the designer behind the objects. As a child, she would forage in the woods wearing wellingtons, collecting sticks and stones, and then endlessly rearrange them on the mantelpiece. Her tinkering is now found in the creation of furniture, interiors and sculpture.
