Running through the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Cobble Hill and Carroll Gardens, Court Street’s commercial appeal lies in its fascinating mix of restaurants and shops. Some of them have been there for decades, reflecting the needs of the Italian immigrants who flocked to the area in the late 19th century, while others are far newer, serving a changing neighborhood demographic that includes an influx of families with small children. Among these newer shops is Tiny Brooklyn, a children’s clothing store with a range of lines not often seen in New York. As its name suggests, the shop isn’t large, but the selection is appealing and well-curated, making this a pleasant spot to browse and shop for children up to age 6.

Close friends purchased a darling outfit for my daughter from Tiny Brooklyn after her birth, but I didn’t visit the store for the first time until recently. The shopkeeper was warm and welcoming, and I delighted in seeing pieces from a range of labels I don’t often come across in person, including MINI A TURE, Munsterkids, Rylee & Cru, and the Icelandic brand iglo+indi. Magnetic chalkboard paint on the lower third of the walls helped to keep my tiny shopper occupied – a thoughtful touch. I look forward to dropping by again in a few months, when fall collections have arrived, or before then, if I need a unique gift to help welcome a new baby or celebrate a birthday. There’s something undeniably lovely about supporting independent neighborhood shops, and this one is a tiny gem.
